Body of Former Resident Arrives
The remains of the late Fred D. Peterson, former Corvallisite who died recently at the late home in Moro, eastern Oregon, arrived in Corvallis today, accompanied by members of the family. The funeral service will be held from Bovee’s chapel at 11 o’clock Saturday morning and interment is to be in Newton cemetery. Mr. Peterson was a member of the W.O.W. of Corvallis. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lillian B. Peterson, one son Leo and a daughter, Mrs. Helen Goodrich of Portland.
Editor’s note: Mr. Peterson was born Oct. 16, 1856, in the county of Stockholm, located on the Baltic Sea Coast of Sweden. His grave marker reads, “Here rests a Woodman of the World” and his involvement in the Corvallis chapter of the organization is mentioned in his death notice. Woodmen of the World was a fraternal benefit society that remains to this day as an insurance company. Mr. Peterson’s wife, Lillian Bell “Lilly” Peterson, died March 12, 1937, in a Salem hospital. She was a resident of Taft at the time of her death. An obituary indicates that she was buried at Mount Union Cemetery but she does not appear in the cemetery’s index of burials. However, a cemetery map does show that there is an unknown person buried in the plot right next to Mr. Peterson and so it’s reasonable to believe that it’s Mrs. Peterson’s burial site.
