Death Follows Operation — Clara Jane Barker, 14-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Barker of the Beaver Creek neighborhood, passed away at Corvallis Hospital late Saturday evening. Clara underwent an operation for appendicitis and apparently was making splendid progress toward recovery until a turn for the worse Friday, death coming Saturday evening. She was the eldest of three children of Mr. and Mrs. Barker, a son and daughter surviving. Funeral arrangements will be made pending news from eastern relatives. The Barkers have resided in the Beaver Creek neighborhood a number of years and have a large circle of friends in the southern part of the county to whom the news of the loss in their family will bring universal regret.

Editor’s note: Clara Jane Barker, was buried March 26, 1919, in Mount Union Cemetery’s Northeast section. The story identified her parents as Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Barker appears to be an error with her father’s initials being C.W. Further research shows her parents as Charles W. Barker and Annie Barker. Siblings were Ferne E. Barker and Lloyd R. Barker.
