Dies at Philomath — Mrs. Caroline Amelia Wessel, a resident of Corvallis and Philomath during the past 15 or 16 years, died at one o’clock Saturday afternoon at the family home at Philomath, following an extended illness from cancer and complications. The funeral service was held at the home at Philomath at 2 o’clock this afternoon, with interment in Newton cemetery.

Mrs. Wessel came to Corvallis from the East, having formerly been a resident of Iowa. She made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Stephen Kirkpatrick of Philomath, who survives her. Mrs. Wessel was aged 75 years. A number of Corvallis friends of the deceased motored to Philomath this afternoon to attend the funeral.

Editor’s note: Mrs. Wessell was born July 31, 1847 in Missouri, according to her death certificate. The cause of death was listed as carcinoma of the stomach. The spelling of her last name appears to be incorrect in the obituary with confirmation from her death certificate and grave marker.
