Resident, Dies Today

Alfred Bails, a resident of Philomath for the past five years, and a resident of Oregon for the past 19 years, died this morning. He was born May 8, 1858, and was 69 years, four months and four days old.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lizzie Bails, and four children, Mrs. C.L. Kibble of Portland, Philip and Carl of Philomath, and Everett of Blodgett. Services will be held in the Philomath college chapel at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. Wm. Nicols, officiating. Interment will be in Newton cemetery. The body is being held at the Bovee chapel, Corvallis.

Alfred Bails was born near Athens, Ohio, May 8, 1858, and passed away at the family home in Philomath, Oregon, September 12, 1927, after a lingering illness.

When a young man, Mr. Bails went to Coon Rapids, Iowa. In 1885 he married Miss Nettie Smith to which union was born a daughter, Bessie. Mrs. Bails died in 1888.

In 1893, Mr. Bails and Miss Lizzie Ebberd were married at Fairfield, Nebraska.

In 1894 his daughter, Bessie, and an infant son died during the scarlet fever epidemic.

Mr. Bails is survived by his widow and four children, Mrs. Claude L. Kibble of Milwaukie, Oregon, P. Alfred of Philomath, Everett E. of Blodgett and Carle E. of Philomath.

Three brothers, John of Point Conception, Missouri, Ellsworth of Marshall, Michigan, and Elmer of Morrisonville, Illinois, also survive.

Mr. Bails was a Christian gentleman and a member of the college church in Philomath. He was a man of integrity and judgment, respected by all who knew him.

Funeral services were conducted at the College church Tuesday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. W.A. Nichols.

Interment was in the Newton cemetery.
