A motorist driving on Alpine Road near Bellfountain Road in rural Benton County was killed Thursday after crashing into a dump truck in a construction zone, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The sheriff’s office was dispatched at around 11:48 a.m., to the site of the crash, located between 4 and 5 miles west of Monroe and roughly 17 miles south of Philomath.

According to the BCSO investigation, a 2005 Subaru traveling east on Alpine Road entered into a construction zone where the Benton County Road Department was doing work. The Subaru failed to stop for the flagger, who at the time was holding a stop sign.

The Subaru crashed into a parked Benton County Road Department dump truck inside the construction zone and the driver sustained fatal injuries.

Law enforcement officials are withholding the identity of the driver until next of kin could be notified.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Monroe Fire Department, Corvallis Fire Department and Benton County Road Department.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call BCSO Detective David Iverson at 541-766-6858 or via email at david.iverson@co.benton.or.us.
