A 63-year-old Monroe man was killed Tuesday morning in a one-vehicle crash on Highway 99W south of Corvallis, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The BCSO preliminary investigation indicated that Craig Richard McKinnon was headed south on 99W in a 2005 Subaru Impreza when for unknown reasons, he drove into a ditch on the west side of the highway just north of Llewellyn Road.
BCSO deputies and Corvallis Fire Department personnel responded to the scene at around 9:45 a.m. McKinnon was declared deceased at the scene.
Deputies diverted traffic onto Airport Road and Greenberry Road and closed Highway 99W for approximately 2-1/2 hours while the BCSO crash team investigated.
According to a report on the crash, deputies concluded, “It does not appear impairment or speed were factors in the crash. No witnesses reported unusual driving behavior prior to the crash.”
