A Corvallis man who had been reported missing was found deceased Sunday afternoon on Marys Peak, the Corvallis Police Department reported.
Steven Mainwaring, 22, was found near the Ford Bronco that he had been driving, law enforcement officials said.
Benton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a remote area of Marys Peak at 4:54 p.m. Sunday after volunteers who had been assisting in the search for Mainwaring reported finding a vehicle matching the description of his 1994 dark blue Ford Bronco.
A Benton County Sheriff’s Office investigation found no evidence of criminal activity or indications of foul play.
Mainwaring was an engineering student at Oregon State University and a member of the National Guard Reserve, according to a missing person’s poster that had been disseminated. His last-known location had been presumed to be Dec. 18 in an area from Eugene to Alsea.
“The Corvallis Police Department would like to share our appreciation for the assistance of the Benton County Sheriff’s Office in this investigation and for the countless hours put forth by the volunteers who assisted in the search for Steven,” CPD said in a press release.
