The Philomath High School softball team dropped to 0-4 on the season with losses of 16-1 to Marist Catholic and 15-0 to Douglas on the first day of the North Medford Spring Break Tournament.

The highlight of the day occurred in the first game against the Spartans (2-4) when Philomath junior Zoee Howard hit a solo home run in the third inning.

But overall, the team struggled with both games ending after three innings on the 15-run mercy rule.

Against Marist, Philomath had two hits — the Howard home run and a two-out single by junior Janae Traglia in the third inning. In the loss to Douglas (5-0), Philomath had two hits in the second inning on singles by junior Kaylie Kohler and senior Kelsey Olsen.

Philomath is scheduled to play two more games on Tuesday with an 8 a.m. start against Cascade Christian and a noon start against Amity. The games are being played in Medford at Lithia and Driveway Fields, formerly known as US Cellular Fields.
