The Philomath High School boys soccer team opened its season Tuesday in Eugene under first-year head coach Gerardo Garibay with a 2-0 loss to Marist Catholic.

Marist Catholic was ranked No. 7 in the OSAAtoday coaches preseason poll.

Philomath now turns its attention to the Bend Soccer Showcase on Friday and Saturday. The Warriors are scheduled to play at 5 p.m. Friday against Ontario and 9 a.m. Saturday against Baker.

Ontario, ranked No. 9 in the coaches poll, will be playing its season opener vs. the Warriors. Baker opened with a 3-0 loss to Fruitland, Idaho, and will play Cottage Grove Friday on the tournament’s opening day.
