Benton County Board of Commissioners incumbent Pat Malone will square off against Republican Bill Currier in November after defeating challenger Helen Higgins for the Democratic nomination.

The final unofficial results published by the county elections office showed Malone with 8,291 votes, or 61.54% of the vote, to Higgins’s 5,115, or 37.96%.

Currier was unopposed for the Republican nomination. The general election is scheduled for Nov. 8.

Linn-Benton Community College’s bond measure for needed facility improvements passed by a fair margin with 71.11% in favor and 28.89% against. The bond, which will be limited to $16 million, will allow LBCC to build a new agricultural center, various needed renovations, including the reopening of a childcare center, and repairs to aging facilities.

The bond will also provide matching funds for an $8 million appropriation that was approved by the State Legislature.

The county elections office reported a 42.81% voter turnout rate.
