A roughly mile-and-a-half stretch of Chapel Drive from South 16th Street to Bellfountain Road will be closed to through traffic and the intersection of Chapel Drive and South 19th Street will be closed to all traffic from Aug. 5-20, Benton County Public Works announced.

The closure is related to the county’s Chapel Drive Bikeway Project, which involves the addition of 6-foot bike lanes on both sides of the road from South 19th to Bellfountain. In addition, also being constructed is a raised intersection at South 19th and Chapel, and medians that include turning areas that will extend from Chapel into the entrance to Philomath Middle School.

The 24-hour-a-day closure will include access for local residents, however, the South 19th-Chapel Drive intersection will not be passable, officials said.

To navigate around the closure, officials said detour routes have been designated via Fern Road, Airport Road and Bellfountain Road.
