A 32-year-old Dorena man lost his life Thursday in a logging accident east of Sweet Home, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Multiple deputies and Sweet Home Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the scene of the accident at 3:07 p.m. Feb. 20 in a remote forested area off Canyon Creek Road with a report that the man had been injured during a logging operation.
Emergency responders were met by members of the logging crew who were trying to get the victim, Christopher Butler, out of the area where he could receive medical attention. However, Butler’s injuries were fatal and he died before he could be transported to a hospital, LCSO said.
Deputies worked through the evening and into Friday morning to investigate the incident.
“At this time, there is no evidence of foul play or equipment malfunctions,” LCSO said in a news release.
The investigation is continuing alongside the Oregon Safety and Health Administration to determine the cause of the accident.
