Philomath firefighters helped bring a raging garage fire under control in the early morning hours Friday in southwest Corvallis.
Philomath Fire and Rescue assisted the Corvallis Fire Department at the scene of the blaze, which was at a residence on Southwest Stopp Place. The dispatch came in 2:55 a.m. March 15.
Corvallis Fire crews were first at the scene to find a garage that was fully involved in flames, the fire department reported.
“Crews immediately attacked the fire and began evacuating the home,” Corvallis Fire said through a news release. “The fire was elevated to a second alarm, which allowed the on-scene commander to bring in additional resources from neighboring departments to assist with the fire and ensure standby coverage.”
Corvallis Fire sent three engine companies and a battalion chief and Philomath Fire and Rescue responded with an engine with four personnel and a duty officer.
“Our crew arrived to help overhaul a fully involved garage fire at this location for approximately 90 minutes,” Philomath Fire and Rescue’s Rich Saalsaa said, who added that volunteers arrived at the city’s Main Street station to cover any other calls within the district.
“Thanks to the quick work of the responding fire crews, the fire was brought under control at about 3:40 a.m.,” Corvallis Fire reported. “Crews managed to keep the fire contained to the garage and out of the residence.”
There were reportedly no injuries to people or pets. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
