Registration is now open for the 12th annual Lilly’s Lope for Hope, a 5-kilometer run and walk dedicated to raising awareness about youth suicide prevention.
The event will take place Saturday, Oct. 18, at Philomath City Park, with the timed 5K beginning at 10 a.m. Check-in and day-of registration will start at 9 a.m.
Created in memory of Philomath High School student Lilly Stagner, the event aims to bring the community together while addressing a critical public health issue. According to event organizers, suicide is the second-leading cause of death among young people.
“Lilly’s Lope brings the community together each year to support our youth and erase the stigma of receiving mental health services,” said Bettina Schempf, executive director of Old Mill Center for Children and Families, which presents the event. “Our goal is to prevent future tragedies and create hope by supporting young people when they need it most.”
The family-friendly event welcomes participants of all ages, including those using strollers and wheelchairs. Children under 3 can participate free of charge. Local youth-serving agencies will be present to share resources and a fundraising raffle will run from 9-11 a.m.
All proceeds from the event support mental health counseling, support services and suicide prevention education for young people in Benton County.
Early-bird registration with discounted pricing is available through Sept. 30. Those interested in participating, volunteering, or sponsoring can find more information online at the Lilly’s Lope for Hope page on the Old Mill Center website.
Old Mill Center for Children & Families, founded in 1977, provides early education, physical health and mental health services to children and families throughout Benton and Linn counties.
