To the Editor:
Dear Philomath,
I am incredibly honored to have served you all as mayor for the last four years and for City Council for the two years prior. However, I have decided that I need to step away from the role as my current term comes to an end (Dec. 31, 2024) and will be endorsing City Councilor Christopher McMorran who is running for mayor. This will allow me to focus my energy on my new business venture, PICEA Consulting Group.
Unfortunately, the deadline for withdrawing my name from the ballot passed in late August, therefore, my name will appear on the ballot in November. Another confusing matter is that I was unable to remove my entry in the voter guide because I have been out of the state and modifications or withdrawing my submission to the Benton County Voter Guide required me to be in person and show proof of identity. I was unable to do so.
This situation will lead to some level of confusion, and I apologize in advance, but I strongly believe that the city is on a strong path and is in great hands. We have incredible staff and great city leadership. Personally, I am really excited to see the folks that are on the ballot for the mayor (Christopher McMorran) and City Council (Diane Crocker, Spencer Irwin and Brent Kaseman) positions.
So please join me in voting for Christopher McMorran for Philomath mayor on Nov. 5.
Chas Jones

Mr. Mayor, Thank you for your service to our community! Best wishes for the next adventure!
