To the Editor:

For close to 40 years, Mr. McFarlane has owned and cared for Evergreen Hill, a Philomath landmark, located just southwest of town between Evergreen Road and Grange Hall Road. The 150-acre property has recently been sold and the new owner has filed a notification with the Oregon Department of Forestry to clearcut 118 acres.

The hill, especially on the north side, is a vital mixed forest containing several old-growth trees and unusual plants. It is habitat for birds and acts as a wildlife corridor.

Take a look at this wild place and enjoy its presence and natural beauty while you can. Clearcutting is scheduled to begin soon or in the near future.
