Linn-Benton Community College’s National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) Letter of Intent Signing Day on April 18 featured 95 new students committing to pursue their technical education degree.

Five students from Philomath were among those participating:

  • Tanner Dowless (Heavy equipment/diesel technology)
  • Sadie Francis (Phlebotomy)
  • Xavier Hins (Welding and fabrication technology)
  • Hunter Pedder (Heavy equipment/diesel technology)
  • Tasnim Sadka (Early childhood education)

The signing day ceremony was designed to honor students who are entering a technical field and to emphasize the importance of their career choice, LBCC said. On the day of the event, high school students were celebrated by their friends and families, college faculty and staff, industry partners and potential employers.

“By signing our incoming students to letters of intent, we’re telling them that we’ve reserved a place for them, and we want them,” Amy Burbee, LBCC Cooperative Work Experience Department chair said through a news release. “Technical education will prepare them for a strong career. Industry leaders are excited about this opportunity because it validates the student and provides an opportunity for industry representatives to meet these future workers.”
