The Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division is investigating the taking of a bull elk in neighboring Lincoln County, the agency said this week.

Troopers responded Jan. 8 to a report of a bull elk shot and killed in a clearing near milepost 4 on Harlan Road. The carcass was found approximately 10 yards from a Weyerhauser gate above Harlan Road. The bull elk is believed to have been shot the previous night.

Two hindquarters were removed from the carcass and the majority of the meat was left to waste, troopers reported.

OSP is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the person or party responsible for the shooting and wasting of the animal. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Oregon State Police Dispatch at 1-800-452-7888, *OSP (*677), or email TIP@osp.oregon.gov. Reference case number SP008527.
