Philomath High School senior Sage Kramer scored 31 points and the Warriors shook off a loss earlier in the week to defeat Astoria on the road, 44-31 on Friday night.

Kramer had 16 points in the first half, 15 in the second to put together a consistent performance that the Fishermen could not stop.

“Sage had a great game,” PHS coach Ben Silva said. “Some of the best finishes at the hoop I have seen.”

Kramer’s 31 points — which equaled Astoria’s point total for the night — came on 12 field goals and 4 of 8 on free throws. Among her baskets were three 3-pointers.

Philomath staggered a bit out of the gate but began to find a better rhythm in the third and fourth.

“Not the greatest start but looked much better in the second half,” Silva said. “Things started to look like they are coming together. Played better defense in the second half and moved the ball really well.”

Silva said junior Abigail Brown had a good game finishing at the hoop — she had seven points. And he mentioned junior Ingrid Hellesto’s contributions to “give us some energy off the bench.”

Tayla Huber led Astoria (0-2) with nine points.

Philomath (2-1) will now prepare for an appearance in the South Coast Les Schwab Tournament in Coos Bay. Hosted by Marshfield High School, the Warriors are scheduled to open the tournament on Thursday with a 7 p.m. game against Redmond. The tournament then continues on Friday and Saturday.
