Editor’s Note: This story had reported the work dates as July 23-26, but ODOT has now rescheduled the project to Sept. 10-12.

Motorists who need to travel on Highway 34 west of Alsea from Sept. 10-12 will need to take a different route because of a bridge project that will require full closure of the road.

The Oregon Department of Transportation plans to replace the timber deck on the Maltby Creek Bridge, which is located between mileposts 35 and 36, or about 5 miles west of Alsea. Lanes in both directions are expected to be closed from 7 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 10 and through Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 11-12. Exact hours of the closure will be announced as the project gets closer, ODOT said.

When the closure does go into effect, ODOT advises motorists to use Highway 20 and U.S. 101 to detour it.

Dates are subject to change based on various factors. Motorists can check TripCheck.com for the most up-to-date traffic and closure information.
