A company with Philomath ties that specializes in custom homes and remodeling has earned national recognition for transforming a disjointed home into a cohesive living space.

Henderer Design and Build was recently named a 2025 Chrysalis Award regional winner in the $300,000-$500,000 Interior Remodel category. The company was among 66 remodeling firms from across the United States that were honored.

Henderer Design and Build, a company owned by Dave Henderer with its main office in Corvallis and a shop in Philomath, is in its 31st year of operation.

The award-winning project, titled “Transitional Modern Dream,” addressed a problematic floor plan that forced residents to navigate through a laundry room to reach main living areas. The original layout featured a cramped entry and awkward transitions between spaces.

Henderer’s design team reconfigured an underutilized den to create a private media room, added a new hallway with custom storage and relocated the laundry room with durable Marmoleum flooring. The changes allowed for an expanded entryway, enlarged kitchen and addition of a walk-in pantry with reeded glass doors and organizational features.

Custom cabinetry throughout the home was designed and built by Henderer Custom Cabinetry, a company division. The design incorporates cream-painted finishes, white oak and gold accents with details including a range hood with a hidden lift-up front for maintenance access.

Judges evaluated entries based on overall design, creative use of space and materials, and how well projects enhanced original structures.

“This company has won four Chrysalis Awards in the past four years, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to professionalism and excellence,” Ken Kanline, awards director, said in a news release. “To win an award in this highly competitive category is quite an achievement.”

The Chrysalis Awards program began in 1994 and recognizes excellence in 16 categories of residential and commercial remodeling nationwide. The program is open to professional remodelers and design professionals across the United States.
