A Philomath native studying at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, has been recognized for academic excellence by her department faculty.

Allison Neelands, a 2023 Philomath High School graduate, was named faculty scholar in political science during the college’s honors convocation on April 29. Neelands is a rising senior at Hartwick, where she is pursuing a degree in political science.

According to the college, faculty scholars are students with excellent academic records who have demonstrated outstanding mastery of their disciplines. Rising seniors are nominated by faculty within their major departments based on academic achievement, leadership and character.

Hartwick College is a private liberal arts and sciences institution. The school describes its educational philosophy as blending academic excellence, career preparation and an active campus life.
