The Philomath High School girls basketball team was seeded No. 1 in the 4A Showcase Final 8 tournament scheduled to begin Tuesday and continue Thursday and Friday.

The Warriors will play eighth-seeded Corbett at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the PHS gym. The winner will advance to North Bend on Thursday to face the winner of No. 4-seed Cottage Grove and No. 5-seeded Valley Catholic. The other side of the bracket on Tuesday shows No. 2 Hidden Valley facing No. 7 Junction City and No. 3 La Grande playing No. 6 Madras.

On Friday, the championship game will be played at Marshfield and a third-place game will be played at North Bend.

The game Tuesday in Philomath will have limited attendance. Athletic director Tony Matta said Corbett will receive tickets for four spectators per player while Philomath gets six spectators per player. There will be room for walk-ins on a first-come, first-serve basis. Matta said the walk-in limit is set at 200.

The Warriors enter the game with an overall record of 11-1. The team went 6-0 in Oregon West play this season and was 11-0 vs. other 4A schools. Corbett comes in with a 9-3 record overall, 7-3 in the Tri-Valley Conference.

The 4A Showcase Final 8 tournament was put together by athletic directors to represent a state playoff. The Oregon School Activities Association is not sponsoring state tournaments this academic year, leaving the decision up to the schools on how to organize tournaments during culminating week.
