The Benton County Genealogical Society will offer a free program on digital scanning at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Philomath Museum. Everyone is invited to attend.
David Devin, who is part of a team digitizing thousands of documents stored in binders and filing cabinets at the Linn Genealogical Society, will outline why and what family historians should scan and how to create digital copies of genealogical research documents at the Jan. 13 event.
Devin will demonstrate techniques on scanning and offer ideas on how to organize the digital documents through file-naming, folder structure and attaching metadata. He will also go over how digitized documents can be used in genealogy programs and offers suggestions about “life proofing” genealogy research.
The program will take place on the museum’s second floor in the Moreland Gallery. The museum is located at 1101 Main St., Philomath.
