The Corvallis-Benton County Public Library in January and February will host “Gearing Up for Gardening” — a free brown bag series of programs that feature tips from local experts. The first program takes place Jan. 9 and weekly topics follow until Feb. 27.
Those who want to attend are invited to bring lunch for the programs, which begin at noon in the library’s large meeting room. The presentations are for all skill levels from those just getting started to long-time gardeners.
The library is located at 645 NW Monroe Ave., in Corvallis.
Following is a rundown of the programs:
- Tuesday, Jan. 9 — “The Good Guys and the Bad Guys: Native Plants and Invasives” with Michael Ahr and Sara Roberts, Benton Soil and Water Conservation District.
- Tuesday, Jan. 16 — “Poisonous Plants—Who Knew??” with Lisa Borgerson, Benton County Master Gardener.
- Monday, Jan. 22 — “If You’re Going to Use Pesticides—Be Safe” with Jennifer Gervais, OSU College of Ag Sciences, Environmental and Molecular Toxicology.
- Tuesday, Jan. 30 — “Yes, You Can Grow Vegetables Without Irrigation—Dryland Gardening” with Darren Morgan, Shonnard’s Nursery.
- Tuesday, Feb. 6 — “Another Surprise! Growing Subtropicals in Oregon” with Todd Anderson, OSU Department of Horticulture.
- Tuesday, Feb. 13 — “Yes, Climate is Changing—Learning to Garden in a Changing Climate” with Joleen Schilling, Chemeketa Community College Department of Horticulture.
- Tuesday, Feb. 20 — “We Can Also Grow Citrus!” with Kneque Chaffin, Home Grown Gardens.
- Tuesday, Feb. 27 — “Last Surprise! Garden Myths” with Janet Magedanz, Benton County Master Gardener.
The talks are co-sponsored by the Benton County Master Gardener Association and Corvallis-Benton County Public Library.
