The Philomath Frolic and Rodeo kicked off Thursday night in its expanded and upgraded arena at Skirvin Park with the first of three rodeo performances.

Cowboys and cowgirls competed in bareback riding, barrel racing, breakaway roping, bull riding, calf roping, saddle bronc, steer wrestling and team roping. Award-winning announcer Scott Allen is back this year. Rodeo clown Clint “Wolfey” Selvester  entertained.

The rodeo continues Friday and Saturday with 7 p.m. shows both evenings. Although Thursday’s attendance appeared to be somewhat light, officials indicated that the Friday and Saturday rodeos were close to being sell-outs.
