The Philomath Planning Commission at the request of the City Council will begin a discussion at its Tuesday, Jan. 4 meeting on local improvement districts and if the city should consider other ways of financing public improvements in the future.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. with commissioners gathering online through Zoom.

The issue of LIDs and paying for street improvements has been ongoing for several weeks at the council and committee level. At a Dec. 13 meeting, councilors debated for a good portion of the evening on several issues related to street improvements.

The council opted to ask the Planning Commission to take a look at the broader question of LIDs and public improvement financing while also scheduling a work session for a specific decision related to a proposed project on North 11th Street. A work session prior to the regular meeting appears on the City Council’s calendar.

Also on the Planning Commission’s Jan. 4 meeting agenda is a presentation by the city attorney’s office on the Committee for Citizen Involvement with discussion to follow.

The Planning Commission is also scheduled to meet for a second time during the month on Jan. 19.

The public can watch a live stream of the meeting on the city’s Facebook page.
