Benton County residents will have the opportunity to recycle their old mattresses and box springs at no cost during a special three-day collection event starting this Saturday at the Benton County Fairgrounds.
The free recycling event, running June 14-16, is made possible through the Mattress Recycling Council’s Bye Bye Mattress program. The timing coincides with Oregon State University’s “Great Move-Out,” though the collection is open to all county residents, not just students.
The collection site hours will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday and Monday.
The Mattress Recycling Council, a nonprofit organization founded by the bedding industry, operates similar recycling programs across multiple states that have enacted mattress recycling legislation. Oregon joined several other states in passing legislation requiring mattress recycling programs.
For residents unable to attend the weekend collection, additional recycling options and locations can be found at ByeByeMattress.com. Those with questions about the event can call 541-737-7347.
