Philomath Fire & Rescue will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross from noon-6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Station 201.

The Red Cross is reporting that the organization is experiencing its worst blood shortage in over a decade.

“The dangerously low blood supply levels have forced some hospitals to defer patients from major surgery, including organ transplants,” the Red Cross reports on its website. “Your donation is desperately needed this holiday season. Please schedule an appointment to give now.”

Donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative.

For those interested in giving blood, sign up in one of the following three ways:

• Schedule an appointment by contacting Fire & Rescue’s Lillee Rodriguez at lillee.rodriguez@philomathfire.com.

• Register online at redcrossblood.org and use sponsor code: PhilomathCommunity.

• Call the Red Cross at 800-733-2767.

Fire & Rescue’s Station 201 is located at 1035 Main St.
