Philomath Fire and Rescue extinguished a grass fire Sunday afternoon on Cardwell Hill Drive in the Wren vicinity, the district reported.

Officials said that the fire department was dispatched at 3:21 p.m. and arrived to find that a burn pile had escaped to cause a 30- by 50-foot uncontrolled fire. After the fire had been extinguished, the crew put a wet line around the area for added protection.

Philomath Fire and Rescue responded with two engines for four personnel and one duty officer. During the response, the district moved an engine from Station 203 (Inavale) to Station 201 (Main Street) to help with local coverage.
