A Philomath High School student with recent experience presenting to the board has been appointed to serve as the district’s student representative for the upcoming school year.
Superintendent Susan Halliday announced at the June 18 School Board meeting that Wyatt Coen, an incoming senior, will fill the student representative position.
“We have an elected representative and it’s somebody familiar to us — Wyatt Coen, who was one of the ASB officers that shared with us in the last couple of months of the school year,” Halliday said, referring to the Associated Student Body. “He’s excited to join us; he’s also going to be with ASB again this year.”
The School Board created the student representative position in 2022. While the role allows for full participation in board meetings, the student representative is not a voting member and is prohibited from attending executive sessions, which are closed to the public.
Coen is expected to begin attending board meetings when the new school year gets underway this fall.
