The Benton County Genealogical Society will welcome guest speaker Brent Bunker on Saturday at Philomath Museum for a free presentation on visiting ancestral homelands as part of genealogical research.

The morning will begin with a members meeting at 10:30 a.m., which is open to the public, followed by Bunker’s talk at 11 a.m.

Bunker, a Newport resident for the past 35 years, brings more than 50 years of genealogical experience to his presentation, “Traveling to the Homeland.” He recently retired from a career in anesthesia and has since devoted his time to volunteering with the Family History Guide Association, where he has written over 300 practice exercises and teaches at RootsTech in Salt Lake City.

His travels in search of ancestral connections have taken him to Scotland, Switzerland, England, New England, China and other locations. During his presentation, Bunker will share experiences from these journeys, including what he describes as somewhat miraculous discoveries.

Bunker and his wife have eight children and 29 grandchildren. He also collects rare old instruments, which he has often shared with others.
