The Philomath School Board is expected to make decisions on Thursday night during its monthly meeting on elementary school curriculum, Philomath Academy-related topics, a handful of policy revisions and a local option levy renewal that has been proposed to appear on the November ballot.

News that some might find most interesting can be found in the district’s consent agenda — various items considered routine that are combined into a single vote. Personnel and staff adjustments are included in the consent agenda and among those listed are sports-related resignations of longtime dance coach Lori Haslam and football assistants Justin Marshall and Shane Stueve.

New hires listed include Mark Henderson as principal — news that was previously announced — Cynthia Barthuly as special programs director and Autumn Hilberg as the head volleyball coach. Among the new teachers are Amber Vaughn (math) and Jessica Carr (science) at the high school, Nancy Thompson (response to intervention) at the middle school and Hailey Vandewiele (K-6 music).

The meeting agenda also includes the continuation of a charter renewal conversation on Kings Valley Charter School and discussions related to Narcan/Naloxone (medication designed to help reverse the effects of an opioid overdose), bargaining with the teachers’ union and a superintendent evaluation.

The School Board is scheduled to begin the evening at 5:30 p.m. in executive session to discuss employment issues and labor negotiations. Executive sessions are closed to the public.
