Crews from six fire agencies contained a small wildfire in a clear-cut area along Botkin Road southwest of Philomath on Saturday evening, holding the blaze to about an acre, according to Philomath Fire and Rescue.

The fire was dispatched at 4:20 p.m., and Philomath responded under an automatic aid agreement to assist the Oregon Department of Forestry’s West Oregon District, the agency said.

In addition to ODF and Philomath, others responding included Corvallis Fire, Monroe Rural Fire Protection District, Hoskins-Kings Valley Rural Fire Protection District and the Alsea Fire Department.

A Philomath Fire and Rescue administrator said the one-acre fire was contained through what was described as the “swift and coordinated efforts of crews on the scene.” Firefighters planned to remain on site through the evening to monitor the area and ensure it was secure.

The Oregon Department of Emergency Management’s latest information on the wildfire showed the cause as undetermined. ODF’s West Oregon District had not released any additional information as of Saturday evening.
