Local artist Kathy Jederlinich and four Benton County groups have collaborated on a new mural at the fairgrounds, officials announced this week.
Called “Sew Happy,” the art display can be found in the Event Center’s Floral Courtyard at the Benton County Fairgrounds, which is located at 53rd Street and Reservoir Avenue in Corvallis.
Jederlinich, who lives in rural Benton County in the Summit vicinity, is a retired Oregon State University art instructor who is prolific in various art forms, including murals and mosaics. She and her husband operate Coast Range Woodworks, which makes handcrafted wood cutting boards and other products.
The Benton County Cultural Coalition, the Benton County Fair Foundation, Benton County Fair Board and the Benton County Natural Areas and Parks Department worked with Jederlinich on the display.
“Her work serves as a testament to the rich artistic talent that resides within Benton County,” said Jesse Ott, Benton County Natural Areas Parks and Events deputy director. “The Benton County Cultural Coalition played a pivotal role in making this artistic endeavor a reality. Their dedication to supporting and promoting local arts is evident in every part of this mural.”
Jederlinich, who is associated with Backbone Murals and Mosaics, serves as Benton County’s community art director.

The mural is described as representing “the spirit of community, artistry and shared vision” and “serves as a symbol of the vibrant artistic spirit that thrives within Benton County.”
Jederlinich utilized a tapestry of colors and shapes to bring the display to life.
Benton County Natural Areas Parks and Events thanks the coalition, Fair Foundation and the community that helped hand-carve the clay tiles.
“This mural is not just a piece of art, it’s an effort that wouldn’t have been possible without the support of various entities,” Ott said.
