The Philomath City Council will take a detailed look at the Park Advisory Board’s functions during a work session scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Monday, July 23 at City Hall.
The council requested the work session as part of an effort to determine which body the Park Advisory Board should report to after making decisions and recommendations. When the board was formed in 2015, municipal code directed the new group to receive matters, report to and make recommendations to the Public Works Committee. However, the board has instead reported directly to the City Council in an advisory capacity.
City Manager Chris Workman believes the reference to reporting to the Public Works Committee was likely a result of model code language taken from a larger city with more advisory committees.
The issue at hand for the council will be to either amend municipal code to officially direct the board to report to the City Council or to retain the current code language and direct the board to begin reporting to the Public Works Committee.
No formal decisions are allowed in work sessions.
Although in-person meetings have returned, those interested can continue to watch proceedings on the city’s Facebook page.
