A 42-year-old Corvallis woman died late Monday afternoon when the vehicle she was driving left Highway 34 and rolled 300 feet down a steep embankment in the vicinity of East Yates Road about 13 miles west of Alsea, Oregon State Police reported.

According to a report on the crash, Brandy Amber Damm-Winningham was headed east on Alsea Highway in a Honda Civic when she lost control of the vehicle and went down the embankment. OSP said it is believed that the driver, who was ejected from the vehicle during the roll event, was not wearing a seatbelt.

Damm-Winningham was declared deceased at the scene.

A passenger in the vehicle, a 62-year-old Corvallis woman, reportedly suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

The highway was impacted for approximately four hours while the crash investigation team processed the scene.

Assisting OSP on the call were the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Alsea Rural Fire, Central Oregon Coast Fire and Rescue and Yachats Rural Fire.
