Philomath-area witches and warlocks interested in floating the Willamette River a few days before Halloween are invited to the second annual Corvallis Witches Float. The Willamette Bewitched event will run from the late morning into early afternoon on Sunday, Oct. 27.
Started in 2023 and inspired by the PdxSUP float out of Portland, the Corvallis Witches Float is a fun event where we blend the spirit of Halloween with a love for paddling on the Willamette River. The event invites witches, warlocks, and magical beings of all ages to join them on the water.
Organizers ask participants to come dressed in their favorite witchy look and float with them from Crystal Lake Sports Park to Michael’s Landing boat ramp (behind the Spaghetti Factory). The event is for kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and canoes only. Life jackets are required.
Spectators are encouraged to watch the launch and cheer on participants along the waterway.
Organizers said the event is geared toward experienced stand-up paddleboarders and kayakers with participants who feel confident on the water, adding that there will be no lifeguards, guides or rescue teams on site. Those who participate are asked to acknowledge the inherent risks and that they are responsible for their own safety.
The timeline for the event begins at 10 a.m. with individual participant setup and preparation. A costume contest will take place at 10:45 a.m. At 11 a.m., participants will gather for a group picture, general announcements and contest awards. The first launch group will get started at 11:30 a.m.
Peak Sports, the event’s official sponsor, will provide prize gift bags for the pre-float costume contest.
