A 21-year-old man died Monday night in a single-vehicle crash into the railroad trestle on 53rd Street in Corvallis, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The crash caused significant damage to the trestle and that area of 53rd will remain closed until engineers can survey the scene, which is scheduled to occur Wednesday. Nicholas Meyer, of Corvallis, was at the wheel when his vehicle crashed into the trestle and caught fire. He was declared deceased at the scene.
BCSO plans to announce later a specific time for the reopening of the area. The law enforcement agency advises motorists to use West Hills Road or Southwest Reservoir Avenue as alternate routes.
The Benton County Crash Team investigated the crash with assistance from the Corvallis Fire Department and Corvallis Police Department.
