Corvallis Police arrested a man in the early-morning hours Tuesday for allegedly peeping into a woman’s home in northeast Corvallis.

Ronald Dean Gibson, 65, of Corvallis, faces charges of attempted assault on a peace officer, a felony, and interfering with a peace officer and second-degree trespass, both misdemeanors, following an incident that began with a caller reporting to police at 5:20 a.m. Sept. 26 that a man was looking into her home located on Circle Boulevard between Highway 99W and Northeast Belvue Street.

“The caller noticed the male had a plastic bag with him and when asked what he was doing, he left without responding,” Corvallis PD reported. “Officers located the male hiding behind a shed near where the caller last reported seeing him.”

According to a report on the incident, Gibson allegedly attempted to strike the responding officer several times with a metal flashlight during an attempt to make the arrest. Several other officers arrived to detain him into handcuffs.

The police officer was not significantly injured in the incident, CPD said.

Oregon State Police lists Gibson as a registered sex offender in its public database with an address in the same neighborhood where he was arrested.
