The National Day of Prayer, an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, invites people of all faiths to pray for the nation. A local event will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at The Refuge in Philomath.

This year’s theme is “Exalt the Lord Who has Established Us.”

The Refuge is located at 1947 College St.

The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. The annual event is an occasion for all Americans to gather and call out to God on behalf of the country, organizers said.
