Community members will have the opportunity to honor the memory of those lost on 9/11 while serving their neighbors at the upcoming Community Day of Service, organizers announced. The event will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Benton County Fairgrounds.

Sponsored by JustServe.org, the activities coincide with the National Day of Service and Remembrance observed on Sept. 11. The national initiative encourages individuals across the country to participate in community service projects as a way to honor those who died in the tragic attacks.

“September 11th is dedicated to honoring the lives and service of those who died on that tragic date,” organizers explained. “Individuals across the nation are encouraged to join and lead community service projects to honor their memory.”

The “Community Day of Service #911” will take place across multiple locations at the fairgrounds, including the auditorium, main lawn and Carriage House picnic area. The event will feature nonprofit information booths, hands-on service projects, and opportunities for families to volunteer together.

Adding to the atmosphere will be a free barbecue lunch, children’s service activities and live entertainment from The Hilltop Big Band. The event aims to showcase the wide range of nonprofit resources available in the area while fostering collaboration between organizations and community members.

“Our goal is for community members to make connections and encourage the spirit of volunteerism within Benton County,” organizers said. “We are confident that relationships formed at an event such as this will strengthen and support our nonprofit community partners and benefit all members of our community.”

Community members are encouraged to bring donations of canned food, eyeglasses, hearing aids and hygiene supplies to support local nonprofit efforts.
