Republic Services will host the second of three public meetings from 7-8:30 a.m. Friday at Philomath City Hall as part of a renewed attempt to expand the Coffin Butte Landfill.

According to a Republic Services news release posted on CoffinButteLandfill.com, the waste management company plans to seek a new conditional-use permit and stated that it is in “the very beginning of Benton County’s pre-application process.”

“During these events, we will listen, whenever possible, respond to community questions, and most importantly, consider feedback during this pre-application phase,” the company wrote in its release.

At the meetings, Republic Services said they will be an opportunity “for discussion and one-on-one conversations with our local team and consulting experts.”

Refreshments will be provided.

The first of the three meetings is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Oregon State University’s CH2M Hill Alumni Center in the Willamette Room. The Philomath public meeting occurs in Friday’s early morning hours at City Hall and then the third meeting is scheduled for 6-7:30 p.m. July 9 as a virtual webinar (register by sending an email to coffinbutte@republicservices.com.

Republic Services launched an expansion attempt two years ago but withdrew the plan when Benton County denied the application.
