The city of Philomath invites the community to celebrate the near-completion of the Philomath Downtown Safety and Streetscape Project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 on the corner of Main Street and 13th Street.
“The project has spanned many years and numerous people and organizations played a part in supporting and implementing this momentous undertaking,” the city wrote in an announcement. “Philomath is looking vibrant and we want to showcase the completion of the project.”
Funded by the Oregon Department of Transportation, the construction phase of the Highway 20 project got started in November 2022 and continued for about 22 months. ODOT reports the cost of the project at $18 million.
Main and Applegate streets between Seventh and 14th were fully reconstructed with rebuilt foundations and new pavement. Curb ramps and extensions, enhanced pedestrian crossings, bicycle lane buffers and a new two-way cycle track on the south side of Applegate between 13th and 15th were among the many improvements. Street lights, landscaping, trash cans and benches were additional features.
