The Philomath Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for this year’s Samaritan Awards, the organization announced.
The free event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in the Philomath High School auditorium and is open to the public. The deadline to submit nominations has been set for 5 p.m. Jan. 31.
The Samaritan Awards feature three classifications — volunteer recognition, First Citizen awards and business, nonprofit and people’s choice awards.
All forms in the various categories are available online (click on the appropriate link below to find the corresponding nomination form as well as additional information):
• Volunteer recognition — The award recognizes an individual that has made a significant contribution to the betterment of the community.
• Business, nonprofit and people’s choice awards — These awards recognize significant contributions in the areas of economic health (business), overall health and livability (nonprofit) and favorite businesses that connect with the community (people’s choice).
• First Citizen awards — These awards are presented annually to “an outstanding individual who best exemplifies the spirit of citizenship and who has shown significant leadership through their time, talents and efforts to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Philomath.” The awards are made up of four separate categories based on age — Future First Citizen Awards (ages 18 and under), Junior First Citizen (ages 19-39), First Citizen (ages 40-64) and Senior First Citizen (65 and older).
The Feb. 15 program will include desserts and beverages. The chamber will accept donations at the door for the Philomath School District’s Weekend Food Pack program.
