Thomas Michael “Tom” Helm was born in Bemidji, Minnesota, to Lawrence H. Helm and Mary Petra Burke Helm on Nov. 18, 1946.

Tom is survived by his wife of 45 years, Donna May Carter Helm, and his two younger brothers, James J. Helm and Lawrence S. Helm. Tom was preceded in death by his mother and father and his sister, Angeline Helm.

The family moved often in the early years while Larry worked for the railroad. During Tom’s teen years, his father started L.H. Construction Co., and the whole family worked for him. Tom attended several grade schools around Oregon and finally graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1965. He went on to graduate with a BS degree in sociology from the University of Oregon and an MBA in business/finance from Oregon State University.

Tom worked for Oregon State University for 10 years, Hewlett-Packard for 24 years and Information Management Systems for 10 years.

Tom really loved people and you could always count on him for a big hug or a friendly smile when he greeted you. Tom also loved golf, skiing, traveling, gardening and doing research on a myriad of topics. But what he enjoyed the most was all the crazy adventures he shared with his wife, Donna.
