The Philomath High School softball team dropped into a 6-0 hole in the first inning and couldn’t climb all the way out Thursday in an 11-2 loss to visiting Cascade.

Malia Scanlan hit a two-run home run and Alyssa Collins hit a two-run double to highlight Cougars scoring in the first. Philomath cut its deficit to 6-2 in the second inning. Ahnika Tryon led off with a single and came around to score. Kelsey Olsen had a one-run single later in the inning with Hannah Bennett scoring.

Cascade added two runs in the third, one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to account for the final score. Kailee Bode had a two-run home run in the seventh.

Tryon went the distance at pitcher for the Warriors, allowing 14 hits, six earned runs and two walks with five strikeouts in a 108-pitch performance. At the plate, Olsen finished 2 for 3 and Tryon was 2 for 4.

Elizabeth Hedges threw a complete game for the Cougars (12-5 overall, 9-3 Oregon West). Bode was the team’s top hitter with a 3-for-4 performance that included three RBIs.

Philomath (5-16, 4-8) will try to get back in the win column Monday with a 4 p.m. game at Stayton. The team’s Senior Day home game will be at 4:30 p.m. May 10 against Newport.
