The Philomath High School boys volleyball team got off to a promising start in a Monday evening match against visiting Western Christian but ended up falling in four sets. The Pioneers, a private school out of Salem, posted a 12-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-22 victory.

Philomath’s record goes to 3-6 in Special District 3 and 4-7 overall. 

The Warriors will next hit the road to face league leader Cascade at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The Cougars, ranked No. 1 in the Oregon School Activities Association rankings, enter the match with records of 8-2 overall and 7-0 in the district.

Philomath’s schedule for Saturday’s Titan Tournament at West Salem was released. The Warriors will begin early with an 8 a.m. match against North Salem followed by a 10 a.m. match against David Douglas and a 1 p.m. match against Thurston.
