The Philomath High School tennis teams notched two more victories this young season with the boys winning at home and the girls on the road — both on Thursday against Estacada.
Although the score on paper was 7-1, the boys won all of their on-court matches with the only blemish being a loss by default at No. 4 singles. Dawson Beckstead at No. 1 and Andrew Leonard at No. 2 both swept their opponents by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Teddy Benbow nearly matched his teammates with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3.
In doubles, Dylan Bell and Nick Stucki were challenged but came away with a 6-4, 6-4 win. Judah Bacho and Mark Grimmer teamed up at No. 2 and took a 6-1, 6-0 victory. The No. 3 duo of Jace Barrett and Noah Curtis won in the only three-set match of the day, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. And at No. 4 doubles, Tomas Harris and Gardin Fairbanks defeated their opponents, 6-2, 6-3.
The PHS girls won three of four singles matches and three of four doubles matches for the 6-2 team victory. In singles matches, Bailey Bell won in the No. 1 position by scores of 6-0, 6-1. No. 2 Noel Lundeen defeated her opponent, 6-0, 6-1. Sierra Johnson at No. 3 was a 6-0, 6-0 winner.
In doubles, Atira Fairbanks and Chloe Jurva beat Estacada’s best by scores of 6-1, 6-1. K Bacho and Lily Schell were 6-1, 6-0 winners at No. 2. Daniella Carlisle and Lorelei Schell at No. 3 won 6-4, 6-0.
Philomath’s boys (2-0) are scheduled to play again on Friday at North Marion. The girls (2-0) play at home against North Marion. Both matches begin at 4 p.m.
