Bluegrass music will take over Marys River Grange Hall on the second Wednesday each month through a new event organized by local musician Yvonne McMillan. The first Philomath Bluegrass Workshop and Jam is set for Wednesday, Sept. 14.

The instruction portion of the evening begins at 7 p.m. and the jam session follows at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for youth 18 and under. Alcohol is not allowed. Other dates scheduled include Oct. 12, Nov. 9 and Dec. 14.

Anyone who wants to come out and listen can “donate as desired,” McMillan said.

The bluegrass event is one of the new activities that McMillan has arranged to take place at Marys River Grange Hall, which is located at 24707 Grange Hall Road. The first Country Dance is scheduled for Sept. 2 and will continue with future dances on Oct. 14, Nov. 4 and Dec. 2. A special event, Talk Like A Pirate Day, will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 19.
